What does Medical Care Direct do?

We provide our Members an alternative to using Private Medical Insurance
(PMI) as the method of funding treatment in Private Hospitals and NHS
Private Patient Units. By using their own funds Members are able to access
a host of alternatives not available to the individual purchaser.

We will soon be able to offer a long term funding option to those looking
to their future healthcare needs.

Can I select which hospital I go to?

Yes. If this is your main criterion. It may not necessarily be the cheapest, but Medical Care Direct will negotiate the best deal we can for you. Even if we cannot get a better price we might be able to obtain Added Value.

What do I get for my annual registration fee?

If you are an internet user, you will be given access to the Members section of the web site which allows you to take advantage of Medical Care Direct products and services, some of which offer discounts to Medical Care Direct Members.

Membership also entitles you to use the Post Operative Medical Help Line. This benefit is for those discharged from hospital but who may have concerns or questions regarding their health. This is a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year service.

Are prices quoted for operations fixed?

Yes, in most cases. There are, however, some medical conditions which cannot be quoted in this way and which may require an assessment beforehand. In such cases you will be made aware of a range of prices pending assessment. Following on from this, you will be quoted a price. It is our aim to ensure that Members are made fully aware of what the operation will cost prior to admission.

If I am on a waiting list can I go privately?

Yes. You may see a consultant privately, if necessary, for which there will be a fee. The operation can be undertaken in a Private Hospital or NHS Private Patient Unit. You do not have to come off the NHS list until the operation is undertaken, so you can keep your options open.

How do I know that the hospital is safe?

All the hospitals sourced by Medical Care Direct have been or are in the process of being accredited. This may include recognition by a national body such as HSQ, IIP, ISO. All consultants who operate within private hospitals are approved by their Medical Advisory Committees, and in the majority of cases hold NHS consultant posts.
